Total UG Students Total PG Students International Student Student Faculty Ratio

Since its inception, the university has emphasised innovation. In 1970 it founded the UK’s first 20th century Medical School, and in 1995 the School of Nursing – a result of the university merging with the Mid-Trent College of Nursing and Midwifery.

In 2000 the university opened a campus in Malaysia. Five years later it opened another, a new purpose-built park campus near Kuala Lumpur. In 2006, Nottingham became the first foreign university to be invited to establish an independent campus in Ningbo, China, a historic city close to Shanghai.

Worldwide, the university has a student cohort of over 40,000 who between them represent more than 150 countries. Through its various study abroad programmes, most students have the opportunity to study overseas as part of their degree, in countries that include Sweden, Mexico, Japan, New Zealand and the US.

Today, the university is home to five faculties: Arts, Medicine and Health Sciences, Science, Engineering and Social Sciences.

It has great facilities for sports and the arts, and the student union is one of the largest and most active in the UK, with more than 250 societies, sports clubs, student-run services, associations and a variety of events on offer. There's also an award-winning student radio station and a student-run theatre that regularly takes performances to the Edinburgh festival. Academic standards are very high and there is an excellent graduate employment record, helped by a good careers service.

Nottingham is great for shopping, restaurants and nightlife. The attractive campus is a short distance away, with landscaped grounds and lots of trees.

Its motto translates into English as ‘A city is built on wisdom.’

Minimum English Language Entry Requirements

This policy specifies minimum English Language entry requirements for students applying to the University of Nottingham. These are minimum entry requirements and many subjects require higher entry qualifications. These requirements apply to students undertaking award and non-award bearing studies at the University.

Below are the grades/scores normally required for immediate entry on to academic programmes at the University. Grades/scores are valid for a maximum period of two years prior to the date of registration.

The IELTS entry requirement for foundation programmes is:

·        IELTS 5.5 (no less than 5.0 in any element).

Integrated Foundation Courses

Since students will be recieving an offer for an NQF Level 6 or 7 qualification, they are required to meet the University's English Language minimum for Undergraduate study upon entry to the initial foundation year.

·        Foundation

For CBSE and HSC Boards an average of 70% across the best four subjects, including relevant subjects, at Class XII is required. For the West Bengal Board an average of 65% is required across the best four subjects, including relevant subjects.

For the Engineering foundation programme relevant subjects are Maths and Physics. For Science they are Maths and one Science subject (Biology or Chemistry). For Social Sciences and Business, Maths is the relevant subject.

·        Undergraduate

Class XII or Standard 12 (10+2) examinations from CBSE, ISCE or a state board are acceptable for admission onto  bachelors programmes. Generally ask for the best of four subjects, and any subject-specific requirements will reflect the overall percentage required (eg. 85% in best four subjects including 85% in Maths).

Students who have taken a 3 year diploma after Class 11 instead of the Class XII exams can be considered for second year entry to bachelors programmes.

Typical offers for a course requiring A level grades of AAA / AAB would be:

·        CBSE and ISC– 85-90%

·        West Bengal – 75-80%

·        Other State Boards – 90%

70% in Year 12 English from CBSE or ISC can be considered as meeting the minimum English language entry requirement, although some courses may ask for a higher grade.

The university does not accept the local language as one of the four subject grades on which they  base an offer, and many schools also exclude Environmental Education from offer grades.

·        Masters

The taught masters programmes with a UK 2:1 entry level require an Indian bachelors degree with a minimum of 60-75% average or a CGPA of 6.0-7.5 out of 10 from a recognised institution.

The exact score required will depend on the institution you have studied at and the course you have applied for.

Some flexibility may be given for Delhi University students who take Arts subjects, and for selected Law programmes including those from Delhi, Pune, Mumbai, Govt Law College, Kolkata, NALSAR, NLSIU, ILS and Amity Law School - in these cases, 55% is normally acceptable for courses which require a UK 2:1 equivalent.

·        PhD & research

A masters and bachelors degree from a recognised University are usually required for PhD entry, although exceptional students may be considered for PhD entry without a masters qualification.

The university requires a minimum of 60-75% average or a CGPA of 6.0-7.5 out of 10 from a recognised institution.

The exact score required will depend on the institution you have studied at and the course you have applied for.
