Aston University is a public research university situated at Gosta Green, in the city centre of Birmingham, England. Aston, which was founded in 1895 and gained its royal university charter in 1966, offers a broad range of courses with particular success in business, science, engineering, health sciences, social sciences and languages. The university is made up of five schools: Engineering and Applied Science, Life and Health Sciences, Languages and Social Sciences, the Aston Medical School and the Aston Business School. It has a total student body of over 11,000 students, comprising around 10,000 undergraduates and more than 2,000 postgraduates.
Key statistics
It has extensive study, research, social, student support and accommodation facilities with a campus accommodation guarantee scheme for first year postgraduate students. More than 70% of the 10,000 or so undergraduates take sandwich placement years or years abroad. The university is proud of its student diversity, links with industry and excellent graduate employment record. The library is spread over four floors and holds more than 250,000 books and 800 periodicals with room for around 700 reading spaces.

It also has access to nearly 3,500 electronic journals and 40 electronic databases. The university campus is spread across 60 acres of land in the Gosta Green area of Birmingham and comes complete with a swimming pool, sports centres, a library, cafés, restaurants, pubs, and shops, hairdressers, health centres and lots of green space. It is a self-contained campus right in the centre of Birmingham – just five minutes' walk from the Bullring shopping centre and 15 minutes' walk from the stations – so you're perfectly placed to take full advantage of the shops, travel links and nightlife.

English Language Requirements
To be accepted onto their programmes, you must be able to satisfy the University's English language requirements. The level required will depend on the programme you are applying for.
Undergraduate applicants:
Depending on score obtained in Class 12 English paper (typically, 75-80% and above), the Examination Board in India and the School at which you are applying to at Aston University, typically, you may be exempted from taking a SELT such as IELTS, TOEFL etc. These exemptions do not apply to Aston Medical School MBChB Programme.
Postgraduate applicants:
Typically, you may be exempt from taking a SELT such as IELTS, TOEFL etc if you have: studied at a highly recognized institution and completed your entire education in English medium, have strong class 12th English paper score, have evidence of working in a multinational company where it is obvious that the daily language of communication is English.

If you have a direct entry unconditional offer for an undergraduate or postgraduate programme, you can take any IELTS Academic test, whether from a UKVI approved centre or not.

If you require a Pre-sessional course, or have been made an unconditional offer for a Foundation year you must take your IELTS Academic test from a UKVI approved test centre.

Accommodation for International Students

International undergraduate students who put Aston as their first choice are guaranteed accommodation for the duration of their course. For subsequent years after their first year, they must apply by the deadline date for returning students.

All accommodation is on the university campus. It is self-catered, with Internet access.

International students are allocated with home and EU students.

Students do not have to move out during the Christmas and Easter vacations. They move out at the end of the licence period after term 3. However, students can apply to stay on campus during the summer vacation and many international students do this.

Self-catering accommodation ranges from £119 to £133 a week for 42-week letting periods including bills and internet access.
