The University of Bradford is a public, plate glass university located in the city of Bradford, West Yorkshire, England. The university received its Royal Charter in 1966, making it the 40th university to be created in Britain, but its origins date back to the early 19th century. There are two campuses: the main campus located on Richmond Road and the School of Management, at Emm Lane.

Key statistics

It was the first British university to establish a Department of Peace Studies in 1973, which is currently the world's largest university centre for the study of peace and conflict. The division has a reputation as a centre of excellence in peace research, international relations, security studies, conflict resolution and development and peace studies. The University of Bradford was the first higher education institution in the UK to open a modern business school and the first outside London to offer part-time degrees.

To this day, the University of Bradford aims to develop courses and curricula that reflect the requirements of the modern world. The university has technology at the heart of its approach and exploits its strong links with industry to shape its courses to the needs of employers. Consequently, Bradford's strengths are in physical sciences and engineering, life sciences and health studies, management and business, international relations, politics and social impact.

The University of Bradford provides high-quality teaching underpinned by cutting-edge research with practical applications to solve tomorrow’s problems. Bradford collaborates closely with local, regional, national, and multinational businesses from across all sectors of the global economy. From employer engagement initiatives, to overseas partnerships including those in Singapore, Brunei, Malaysia, Pakistan and India, these global and local partnerships inform the university’s curriculum and provide inspirational work placements.

Bradford is a great place to live and study. Although it is one of the ten largest cities in Britain, it is small enough to be friendly, compact enough to be easily manageable, and yet large enough to have all the facilities of a thriving, modern city.  Overall the University has a close-knit, friendly atmosphere, enabling students to get to know each other quickly. The University of Bradford Students' Union (UBU) is run for students by students to provide the vast majority of non-academic activities and support on campus. The city campus fosters a close-knit community and is a mix of innovative and sustainable new developments and green open space. For students studying management and law related subjects, the school of management parkland campus is just 25 minutes' walk or a free bus ride from the city campus, where historic buildings stand side-by-side with the latest state-of-the-art facilities.
