  • All undergraduate international students are guaranteed accommodation in university managed properties in their first year.

  • Every Durham University student belongs to a college, whether living in accommodation there or elsewhere; colleges provide an environment to encourage and support student's studies and personal development. Colleges are not teaching bodies, all teaching is delivered through the various academic departments.

  • Each college has its own distinctive character, ranging from historic to modern, some with age-old traditions, while others are more informal. As well as accommodation, colleges offer a high level of support to students, along with student-led events including balls, concerts and productions.

  • A variety of study bedrooms are available; and many colleges are fully-catered although some offer self-catering. All bedrooms have Internet access.

  • The university tries to ensure that international students are spread between the different colleges. Students remaining on campus at Christmas move into one college for the holidays; at other times of year, students can usually extend their stay for an additional fee.

  • There is no guarantee that accommodation will be available but in previous years the university has been able to offer a limited number of single rooms to postgraduate students.

Durham University offers a range of financial support opportunities for current and prospective  students. The University attracts significant resources from external sources and scholarships are often fully funded; covering tuition fees and maintenance support. However, the University also offers a range of smaller awards and prizes. Durham University offers a range of non-repayable support programmes to help ensure that the brightest and best students can access world-class education at Durham. Financial support is available for Home, EU and International students at all levels of study.
